My Approach

Inspire

I help individuals to make decisions about their futures. I help them through the vast range of options open to them in a professional, friendly and purposeful way.

My skills are focused on helping the young person to recognise their strengths and abilities, and to develop their self awareness to enable them to understand better their current situation and skillset and how this fits into the decision making process.

I aim to give clarity to their thoughts around the various option choices open to them by putting these in a framework that helps ‘package’ their ideas and the necessary action to achieve their aims and ambitions.

Impartial

I provide impartial careers advice and guidance to help young people identify their key goals, gather, understand and interpret information and apply it to their own situation.

I help with action plan and research work to support pupils with their career and learning pathway decisions that are best suited to their interests, personal qualities and abilities. I clarify progression routes and employability skills development to enable them to reach their true potential for their chosen career including preparedness for the workplace.

I encourage young people to look at the current and future labour market trends locally and across the region, nationally and internationally.

Holistic

Every young person is unique and a holistic and bespoke service is therefore important to me in how I help the individual understand themselves, their needs, aspirations and influences and use the knowledge and skills they develop to make decisions about learning and employment that are right for them for their future success, happiness and wellbeing.

I believe it is important to support self awareness and consider the individuals level of resilience and mental toughness, as they determine which careers best meets their preferred lifestyle and hopes for the future.

As a teenager this can be daunting, but with care, consideration and attention to all these aspects of career choice and decision making, a positive outcome can be achieved.

Reassure

Young people can be overwhelmed with the pressures and the many choices that are presented to them at key points during Years 8, 9 and 11.

When planning their post 16 pathway onto College, Traineeships, Apprenticeships, Career Degrees, or University courses and beyond, the young person can benefit greatly from the reassurance, understanding and expertise offered by a qualified impartial careers adviser to guide them through the sometimes complex array of choices.

My objective is always to help the individual to focus on their current situation and future choices by giving their personal progress my full attention.
